A MEME ABOUT STOCKS.
PAIRED WITH THE MARKET.
Internet shorthand for irrational confidence, questionable trades and watching a chart go up.
LIQUIDITY
The Robinhood Stock Token referencing SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust, used as the paired asset.
QUOTE ASSET / ROBINHOOD STOCK TOKEN
SPDR S&P 500 ETF TRUST ($SPY)
STONKS uses the canonical Robinhood Chain SPY token as the other side of its market.
One market
STONKS trades directly against SPY in its liquidity pool rather than a conventional stablecoin quote.
Literal pairing
The narrative is also the market structure: the stock-market meme is paired with a tokenized S&P 500 ETF.
Not the same asset
STONKS is a separate meme token. Holding STONKS does not mean holding or owning SPY.

MEME MAN ↗
BEFORE THERE WAS A TOKEN,
THERE WAS ONE MISSPELLED WORD.
STONKS.
In 2017, Meme Man appeared in front of a stock-market graphic with “STONKS” written across it. The intentionally wrong spelling became shorthand for financial decisions that somehow felt genius and ridiculous at the same time.
The meme survived every market cycle because the joke is universal: line goes up, confidence goes up. STONKS became part of the internet's financial vocabulary long before it became an onchain token.
